Mia and the Gang From Black Dog Ranch

Hi everyone. It's me Mia. Roll on those lazy hazy crazy days of summer! It is still hot here at the ranch, but Ms. Charlene keeps plenty of fresh cool water for us to drink. She says it is very important that people keep fresh water available for their animals on hot summer days. We are taking it easy and save all of our playing for late in the day after the sun goes down. The horses stay in the barn until evening too! Speaking of horses...Ms. Charlene decided that the flies were getting pretty bad up at the barn this week so she went to town and bought these things that look like milk jugs. She had to mix up some stinky stuff to put in them to catch the flies and she sure did carry on about how bad that stuff smelled. My brothers and sisters and I didn't think it was that bad. In fact we were pretty interested in rolling in a big pile of it, but Ms. Charlene told us no way! Ms. Charlene asked me why on earth do we dogs like rolling in stuff that smells bad??? Well I had to explain to Ms. Charlene that it's an old hunting thing with us dogs. (I think) Not that I do much hunting except for trying to find a bone I might have buried last week, but I've heard that in the old days we would roll in something that smelled bad so we could cover up our own scent and that way we could sneak up on a squirrel or a rabbit. It all sounds kind of silly because if any of us get hungry here at the ranch we just go over to our food bowls and eat, but I guess that's how it was in the old days. This is our friend Daisy. We wanted to show you this picture because it shows just how smart us dogs can be! Daisy is Ms. Marie's rescue Border Collie. She had to go to the groomer this week and get a summer haircut. Daisy told me that if she was going to go for a car ride that she better get into the car seat. Daisy said if Ms. Marie puts her grandson in it to be safe that she probably wanted her to sit in it too! Ms. Marie didn't mind and thought it was so funny that she took a picture of it. Well I hope everyone takes a look at our featured adoptable pet here on my blog page. Jake is a great dog and he is waiting for a great forever home and someone to give a lifetime of love too! Ms. Charlene says we all deserve a second chance so I hope someone gives Jake a chance! Talk more soon, Mia

Mia and the Gang from Black Dog Ranch

Hi Everyone. It's me Mia.
Well this has been a very busy week. Ms. Marie brought her two horses over to stay with us at the ranch this summer because they don't have as much grass on their farm as we have at the Black Dog Ranch. Ms. Charlene said we would be happy to help them out for the summer because after all that's what folks are suppose to do, help each other out when someone is in need!
We think Chief and Chance are very handsome, for horses that is.
This silly picture of me is my way of saying, "Boy is it HOT today"!!! We have been staying on the front porch trying to keep cool because it has been to hot today to play out in the yard. Here's a picture of Betty under my favorite bench. She is so silly.
Well I kind of got into some trouble this week.
Ms. Charlene didn't really yell at me or anything like that, but she caught me getting into the bird feeder and we had to have a talk about how the birds have their food and I have my food and we certainly didn't want the birds to go hungry or anything like that.
I love Ms. Charlene soooo much I decided to leave the bird feeder alone and that she was probably right about how all good dogs and kids for that matter need to learn how to share, it's just the right thing to do! (besides, those seeds kept getting in my teeth!)
Well I better go for now, talk more soon,
Mia

Mia and the Black Dog Ranch Bunch

Hi everyone, it's me Mia.
Boy I have been really tired this week from all the activity last week so I am just taking it easy on the front porch. I was suppose to go with Ms. Charlene to Edwardsville Illinois to a Book Signing at the Smug Mutts Booth (They make really cool treats and accessories for us dogs), but I told Ms. Charlene that I would rather stay here on the farm with my brothers and sisters. She said that was perfectly alright and said I have been such a good dog I deserved a week-end off.
Here's a picture of our new friends with Ms. Charlene, Sarah & Brian from the http://www.thesmugmutt.com/. Jaxxson and Parker are two of the four wonderful rescue dogs that live with Sarah and Brian. What an awesome family to have given so many second chances to such deserving dogs!
I think Jaxxson and Parker are sooooo handsome. After I saw their picture I told Ms. Charlene that I wish I would have gone with her so I could have met them.
Ms. Charlene has been busy this week-end taking care of Precious, one of the horses here at the ranch. Precious has a sore foot and Ms. Charlene has been soaking her foot in a big bucket of yucky stuff.
Ms. Charlene has had someone out here about every other day this week checking on Precious so I am sure she will be fine. Ms. Charlene sure does take good care of us here at the ranch.
She says we should all look out for each other. After all isn't that what a family is suppose to do for each other?
Well I better go for now, we will post some of our upcoming events this coming week to let everyone know where we will be presenting my book, Stories from Black Dog Ranch, in the next couple of months.
Talk more soon,
Mia

Mia & the Black Dog Ranch Gang

Hi everyone it's me Mia,
WOW, this has been a very busy week! This picture is of me and my new friend Becca. She is a student at Roosevelt Elementary and we are riding on my float in the Farmington Country Days Parade. You can see Teddie behind me. We had a lot of fun and there were tons of people and kids there to watch!
Here are some pictures that show all the people and kids on my float and Ms. Charlene sitting on the front porch. Gena Faulkner, the artist of my book did a great job designing our float!
Ms. Charlene said we were so lucky to have such great families ride with us on our float. Here is a picture of the Carducci family that have open their home and hearts to a rescued dog named Madison. This family believes in second chances and all of us here at the Black Dog Ranch think they are the greatest!
Here is a picture of the Boyer family. They came out to ride on my float and to support the ranch too! Ms. Marie is sitting in the background holding her grandson, he loves all of us here at black dog ranch!
Finally here is a picture of me with Ms. Darla. I love her soooooo much. Ms. Charlene says she doesn't know what she would do without good friends like Ms. Darla. She was there all day talking to the kids at Country Days and selling my book for me while I went to the Fox Paw Pal Festival in Arnold and got to meet some of the kids Ms. Charlene has been reading my book to. So a great big thank you to Ms. Darla, Ms. Terri and Ms. Julie for taking care of things while me and Ms. Charlene are visiting other children. It was a great week-end and I will be posting my posters on my comments page that they kids from Seckman made for me when I was there last week so don't forget to check the comments page.
Well I better go for now. Talk more soon,
Mia
